I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The role would suit someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with client-facing consultancy, rather than being purely office or field-based.
About You
Ideally, you'll bring experience and knowledge of:
- Biosolids treatment and recycling to agricultural land
- Organic manure management
- Nutrient management
- Environmental permitting and regulatory requirements
- Technical report writing
- Developing and maintaining customer relationships
Experience with related organic materials such as compost, digestate, water treatment sludge, or paper sludge could also be highly relevant.
FACTS qualification would be desirable, although candidates who are willing to work towards the qualification will also be considered.
You'll need strong written and verbal communication skills, good IT/MS Office capability, and the confidence to develop professional networks and relationships across the sector.
Why Consider It?
This is a particularly interesting opportunity for someone who wants to have a genuine influence within a small, growing specialist business.
The role is home-based, with approximately one day per week spent traveling to customers, industry meetings, and team meetings. Occasional overnight stays will be required, so a full UK driving license and access to a car are essential.
