BMS Commissioning/Project Engineer

Oxford
Full-Time
£55,000 - £65,000 + benefits & vehicle/allowance

Position

The Controls Commissioning Engineer will provide technical expertise across BMS and building controls projects, covering engineering, programming, testing, commissioning, and start-up of control systems and associated mechanical/electrical equipment. The role will support projects from pre-construction through to completion, including software development, system amendments, integration, and client handover.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 6+ years’ experience within BMS, Building Controls, or a related controls environment.
  • Strong understanding of BMS/controls systems, control panels, instrumentation, and field devices.
  • Experience with BMS software engineering, strategy development, and system modifications.
  • Knowledge of third-party system integration and open protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, or similar.
  • Experience with commissioning, testing, fault-finding, and system validation.
  • Ability to develop or amend BMS graphics and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a wider engineering team.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and general engineering software.
  • Trend/Tridium/Priva knowledge

  • Manage and provide technical support on complex BMS and controls projects.
  • Attend pre-construction and design meetings to support project development and client requirements.
  • Review plant information, drawings, and specifications and assess technical requirements.
  • Complete BMS software engineering, programming, and system amendments.
  • Commission, test, and validate BMS/controls systems and associated equipment.
  • Produce, modify, and amend BMS graphics in line with client requirements.
  • Develop control strategies and Descriptions of Operation.
  • Support the selection and specification of BMS/controls components.
  • Fault-find and resolve technical issues across controls, software, and system integrations.
  • Produce commissioning documentation, operational manuals, and project handover information.
  • Attend client demonstrations and support final system handover.
  • Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor quality of works and ensure projects are delivered in line with specifications.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to junior engineers.
  • Work in accordance with company health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
  • Support project teams with other technical duties as required.
