Looking for the opportunity to take complete ownership of your own BMS projects?
We're working with an ambitious and growing BMS business looking for an experienced BMS Project Engineer / Small Works Engineer to join their Leeds team. This isn't a role where you'll be responsible for one small piece of a much larger project.
You'll take ownership of your projects from the initial requirement right through to engineering, delivery, commissioning and final handover. The small works division is organically fed opportunities through other areas of the wider business, creating a consistent pipeline of projects without relying solely on winning new work from scratch.
Individual projects will typically range up to around £40,000–£50,000 in value, with the successful engineer expected to manage a portfolio representing approximately £500,000 of annual revenue.
The Role
Based from the Leeds office, you'll manage BMS small works projects across Yorkshire from end to end. You'll be responsible for understanding the client's requirements, developing the solution, managing costs and procurement, coordinating subcontractors and ultimately ensuring the finished project is delivered properly. You'll have real ownership of both the technical and commercial performance of your projects.
Responsibilities Will Include:
- Managing BMS small works projects from initial enquiry through to completion
- Taking ownership of individual projects valued up to approximately £40,000–£50,000
- Managing an annual portfolio of approximately £500,000
- Developing BMS system designs and control solutions
- Selecting and specifying appropriate hardware, software and control strategies
- Producing engineering documentation, schematics, schedules and technical submittals
- Procuring equipment and subcontractors
- Managing and coordinating electrical installation subcontractors
- Programming, configuring and testing BMS control systems
- Commissioning completed projects
- Integrating BMS with third-party systems
- Managing client relationships throughout project delivery
- Resolving technical and site issues
- Managing project costs and protecting project margins
- Ensuring invoicing and commercial milestones are completed correctly
- Delivering completed systems through to client handover

What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who understands BMS projects technically but also wants the responsibility that comes with owning the complete job.
You'll Need:
- BMS Project Engineering or Small Works experience
- Strong technical BMS knowledge
- Experience managing projects from conception through to handover
- BMS engineering and commissioning capability
- Understanding of BMS system design and control strategies
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and installation teams
- Good commercial awareness
- Understanding of project costs, procurement and margin
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- Confidence dealing directly with customers
- Good organisation and project management skills
- Ability to manage multiple small works projects simultaneously
