Description

Join Bath Spa University as our technical lead for Building Management Systems, smart technology and building controls across a diverse estate. This is a hands-on role where you’ll drive system performance, energy efficiency, compliance and innovation while supporting teaching, enterprise and residential environments.

About the Role

  • Lead and optimise the University's Building Management Systems (BMS) and associated control systems.
  • Act as the University's technical expert for building controls, smart technologies and IoT integration.
  • Diagnose, repair and improve complex building control systems.
  • Design, programme and implement control strategies and system upgrades.
  • Analyse operational data to identify performance improvements and energy-saving opportunities.
  • Manage specialist contractors and suppliers delivering BMS and controls services.
  • Lead control system and smart technology projects from concept through to completion.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including control strategies, drawings and asset records.
  • Support statutory compliance and manage operational risks associated with building controls.
  • Work closely with Estates and IT teams to ensure secure, reliable and resilient system operation.
  • Develop staff capability through training, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
  • Coordinate responses to system failures and critical incidents.

About You

  • Experience with Trend BMS or equivalent building control platforms.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills within complex electrical and control systems.
  • Ability to interpret electrical, mechanical and controls schematics.
  • Experience supervising contractors and supporting operational teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyse technical data and produce meaningful reports.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, energy management and smart building technologies.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach with strong attention to safety and compliance.

Additional Information

  • Salary: Grade 7 - Starting from £38,784 rising to £43,482 per annum
  • The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
  • Special Conditions:
    • Full UK driving licence required.
    • Ability to work across all Bath Spa University campuses.
    • Participation in training and continuing professional development as required.
    • Occasional attendance outside normal working hours may be required to support critical system issues and planned project activities.
