Role Description
The Board Member role at YooKatale is a contract position based in the London Area, United Kingdom, with a hybrid arrangement that allows some work from home. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Participating in board meetings
- Reviewing strategic plans
- Providing governance oversight on key initiatives related to food accessibility and digital marketplace growth

The Board Member will advise on business strategy, risk management, and organizational performance, helping align YooKatale’s mission and vision with practical operational goals. The role also involves supporting leadership with guidance on stakeholder engagement, ethical standards, and long-term sustainability, while acting as a critical friend to the executive team. The Board Member is expected to contribute independent judgment, challenge assumptions constructively, and help ensure that decisions reflect YooKatale’s customer-focused values and social impact objectives.

Qualifications
- Experience in corporate governance, board participation, or senior leadership roles, with the ability to provide strategic oversight and independent judgment.
- Background in food systems, agriculture, retail, consumer goods, or related sectors, ideally with exposure to African markets or emerging economies.
- Knowledge of digital platforms, mobile marketplaces, or technology-enabled businesses, including familiarity with data-driven decision-making.
- Demonstrated capability in strategy development, risk management, and organizational performance monitoring.
- Strong financial literacy, including understanding of budgets, investment decisions, and sustainable growth models.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative and inclusive approach.
- Commitment to YooKatale’s mission of food accessibility, and alignment with values such as customer focus, respect, authenticity, curiosity, and perseverance.
- Ability to operate effectively in a hybrid work environment, with willingness to attend periodic in-person meetings in the London Area.
- Prior non-profit, social enterprise, or impact-focused experience is an advantage.
- Relevant academic or professional qualifications in business, governance, finance, law, public policy, or a related field are beneficial but not mandatory.
