Board Member at Mossley AFC
Do you have an interest in non-league football, community projects, and sustainable business knowledge? Mossley AFC are seeking board members to support the club’s growth and play a key role in the next phase of the club’s development.
Report to: Chair of the board of directors
Location: Remotely and in person at Mossley AFC, Seel Park, OL5 0ES.
Remuneration: The role is voluntary (hours to be discussed at interview).
About Us
Founded in 1903, Mossley AFC is a volunteer-led FA affiliated club playing step 4 in the football pyramid. The club sits at the heart of its community and continues to build towards a sustainable and ambitious future, both on and off the pitch. As part of that journey, we are looking to strengthen our board with driven and strategically minded individuals, to help lead and shape our long-term development, both on and off the pitch.
Role Purpose
- To participate in effective and efficient management and governance of the football club, determining and delivering sustainable strategies, policies and plans.
- Maintaining sound financial management of the club’s resources. Supporting and developing the growth of funding opportunities.
- Apply your own knowledge and experience to review and develop business opportunities for the club. Developing partnerships with the business community, local council and stakeholders, raising the profile of the club.
- Recommend new courses of action for the club to take to support the commercial and sustainability targets.
- Maintaining absolute confidentiality about all aspects of the club’s business.

Commitment
- Attend monthly executive board meetings in person at the club sponsor’s lounge but with remote meetings if appropriate.
- Exercise the duties and responsibilities of a company director in accordance with The Companies Act (2006) and any other relevant legislation.
- Actively participate in strategic management of the company (including matchdays when called upon).
- Participate in the delivery of strategic aims and objectives.
- Safeguard the interest of the members of the company.
- Promote inclusion, diversity, and equality of opportunity to all throughout the league.
- Contribute to constructive debate at board and committee meetings.
- Ensure safeguarding and welfare is at the forefront of league activities and recognise safeguarding of all individuals within football is of paramount importance.
- Promote sustainability within the club.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the board

Essential Skills
- Strategic leadership and management skills. Ability to monitor and develop strategic aims and objectives of the club.
- Stakeholder communications. Excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to form relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Analytical and decision-making skills. The ability to analyse a situation and make an informed and rational decision.
- Financial management. The ability to understand and challenge management accounts.
Desirable Skills
- We are looking for individuals with skill sets in IT, legal, commercial or marketing, or any other profession relevant to the development of non-league football.
- DBS checks preferred. Companies House disqualified director's check.
