External Board Member – Finance
University of Law Students’ Union
Voluntary | Predominantly Remote | Approx. 1 day per month
Closing date: 12th October 2026
The University of Law Students’ Union is looking for an experienced finance professional to join its Governing Board as an External Board Member, at a particularly exciting point in the organisation’s development.
The Students’ Union represents students across the University of Law, supporting student voice, representation, welfare, student groups, volunteering and development. It is currently a department of the University but is undertaking a significant programme of work towards becoming an independent legal entity, with the ambition of completing this transition around 2028.
The opportunity
As the Board’s finance specialist, you’ll bring an independent and informed perspective to financial performance, risk, long-term planning and sustainability.
You won’t be expected to manage the Union’s finances day-to-day. Instead, you’ll use your professional expertise to scrutinise financial performance, test assumptions, help fellow Board members understand complex financial issues and provide constructive challenge.
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match

See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You’ll also join the Finance and Risk Subcommittee, which provides deeper scrutiny of budgeting, expenditure, management accounts and organisational risk. This committee will play a particularly important role as the SU develops the financial arrangements and oversight required to operate successfully as an independent organisation.
Beyond finance, you’ll share collective responsibility for the governance, strategy and long-term sustainability of the Students’ Union.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone with strong financial expertise, sound judgement and the confidence to ask constructive and sometimes challenging questions.
You don’t need previous Students’ Union experience. What’s more important is your ability to apply your professional experience within a governance environment, alongside a genuine interest in supporting an organisation that exists to represent and improve the experience of students.
