About The Passage

The Passage is one of the UK’s leading homelessness charities, providing a comprehensive range of services to support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. For over four decades, we have delivered high‑impact frontline support, innovative housing solutions, and evidence‑based advocacy aimed at ending street homelessness.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and committed Trustee to join our Board and contribute to the strategic leadership and governance of the charity. Trustees play a central role in ensuring The Passage remains financially sustainable, well‑governed, and focused on delivering high‑quality services that meet the needs of the communities we serve.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic oversight and constructive challenge
  • Ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and financial requirements
  • Supporting and scrutinising organisational performance
  • Acting as an ambassador for the charity and its mission
  • Contributing to Board committees as required

Person Specification

We welcome applications from individuals with:

  • Senior leadership experience in any sector
  • Strong strategic judgment and analytical skills
  • Commitment to social justice and addressing homelessness
  • Integrity, independence of thought, and a collaborative approach
  • A collaborative, compassionate approach to governance

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in housing, finance, public policy, lived experience of homelessness, charity governance or community engagement, though this is not essential.

Time Commitment

The role requires attendance at quarterly Board meetings, participation in relevant committees, and occasional engagement in strategic sessions or events. The overall commitment is approximately 1–2 days per month.
