Who we are
Titan is a place‑based education charity rooted in North and West Birmingham. For more than two decades, we have brought schools and partners together to improve outcomes for children and young people, strengthen the local education workforce, and expand access to opportunity. Our work is grounded in collaboration, trust, and a deep commitment to the communities we serve.
Our new 2026–2029 Strategy sets a bold direction for the years ahead. It recognises the significant challenges facing young people in our area and it commits Titan to playing a more active, visible, and influential leadership role in addressing them.
Over the next three years, Titan will deepen partnerships across schools, trusts, universities, employers, and civic organisations. We will strengthen and grow a local teaching workforce through high‑quality Initial Teacher Training and professional development. We will expand enrichment, aspiration, and opportunity for young people across Perry Barr and Ladywood constituencies. And we will invest in our own organisational capacity to ensure we can deliver this work with clarity, confidence, and impact.
The Trustee opportunities and role
This is a pivotal time for Titan and our Board of Trustees is crucial in providing the support and steer to help us achieve our ambition to sharpen our offer and strengthen our financial model. Trustees joining us at this exciting time will be vital in ensuring we remain financially resilient, strategically focused, and deeply connected to the communities we serve.
Our current Board is collaborative, values‑driven, and committed to proportionate, charity‑appropriate governance. We are expanding our Board to bring in specific expertise in finance and charity governance and as such, we welcome applications from people who bring senior experience in finance, audit, risk, charity governance or organisational leadership. You will be comfortable offering constructive challenge, committed to proportionate governance, and motivated by improving outcomes for children and young people in Birmingham.

- Developing and promoting a shared vision for Titan’s purpose, values and culture, and ensuring that obligations to members and wider stakeholders are understood and honoured
- Setting Titan’s strategic aims and ensuring that the financial and human resources needed to achieve them are in place
- Providing leadership within a framework of sound, proportionate controls that allows risk to be identified and managed effectively
- Upholding transparent and accountable charity governance
The Board and the Finance and Pay Committee meet four times a year and hold overall responsibility for Titan’s strategic and financial performance. The Board works closely with the CEO, offering both challenge and support in equal measure.
Trustee – Finance
The Finance Trustee will play a key role in strengthening our financial model, supporting diversification, and ensuring long‑term sustainability, working closely with the CEO to ensure Titan has the financial insight, controls, and forecasting needed to deliver our strategy with confidence.
They will bring strong financial acumen to ensure scrutiny and excellence across Titan’s financial governance and reporting, risk management, and long‑term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the financial standing of the organisation, advising the Board on financial governance, performance, risks and strategy.
- Ensure the preparation of annual budgets, management accounts, and statutory accounts in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Act as Chair of the Finance & Pay Committee
- Present key financial information clearly and accessibly to Trustees.
- Oversee the appointment of external auditors/independent examiners and review their findings.
- Ensure the charity complies with relevant financial legislation and reporting requirements (Charity Commission, Companies House, HMRC).
Person Specification
- Commitment to the mission and values of Titan Partnership
- Professional financial qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent senior level experience in financial management.
- Strong understanding of financial strategy, reporting and risk management.
- Ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with Trustees and staff.

Trustee – Charity Governance
The Governance Trustee will support Titan by strengthening its governance framework to ensure clarity of roles, proportionate policies, and effective oversight, ensuring Titan meets Charity Commission expectations while maintaining agility and responsiveness.
Key responsibilities
- Strengthen Titan’s governance framework
- Ensure compliance with Charity Commission and Companies House requirements
- Support Board development, recruitment, and succession planning
- Champion transparency, integrity, and proportionate governance in line with charity best practice
Person specification
- Commitment to Titan’s mission and values
- Experience as a charity trustee or senior leader in a charity with experience of charity policy frameworks, risk register and Board development.
- Strong understanding of charity governance, risk, and compliance
- Ability to support and challenge constructively
- Experience of organisational development or board effectiveness

This is an opportunity to influence local education strategy and strengthen a charity that plays a vital role in supporting schools facing complex challenges and in doing so, have a meaningful role improving outcomes for children and young people.
This is a voluntary and rewarding role. Trustees attend approximately four Board meetings per year (plus four for those appointed to the Finance and Pay Committee), plus occasional strategy sessions. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed. We aim to make trusteeship accessible and manageable for people with busy professional lives. Meetings are purposeful, well‑structured, and focused on strategic oversight.
