Founding Trustees Wanted | The MIA Effect Foundation

I’m building something new and I’m looking for people who would like to help shape it from the beginning.

The MIA Effect Foundation is a new charity being developed to create opportunities for women and girls through education, confidence building, mentoring, skills, partnerships, and practical support.

We are now forming our first Board of Trustees.

This isn’t about joining an organisation where everything has already been decided. We are still at the beginning. Our founding trustees will have the opportunity to help shape our direction, challenge ideas, and help us build the right foundations for the future. I want to bring together people with different experiences and perspectives. People who care about creating opportunities and who are prepared to contribute rather than simply have a trustee title.

We are particularly interested in people who can bring experience or knowledge in areas such as:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You do not need previous trustee experience. Professional experience is valuable but it isn't the only experience that matters to us. We also want people who understand some of the realities faced by the women, girls, and communities we hope to work alongside. That might come through your own experiences, community involvement, education, volunteering, or simply having a perspective that is not always represented around a boardroom table.

We also welcome younger voices. If you are at the beginning of your career but have ideas, energy, and an understanding of the issues affecting young people today we want you to feel that there is a place for you at the table. At the same time, we would love to hear from experienced professionals who can bring knowledge, networks, and good judgement and help us build responsibly. There is something quite special about joining at the beginning.
