Role Description
The Board Trustee – Housing & Government Planning is an advisory role based in London, responsible for providing strategic oversight and governance across the organization’s housing and planning initiatives. Monthly responsibilities include:
- Attending London council meetings
- Participating in board and committee meetings
- Reviewing and challenging strategic plans
- Contributing to long-term policies related to housing, regeneration, and government planning

The trustee will engage with senior leadership to assess risks, monitor performance against objectives, and ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks. The role involves building relationships with local authorities, community groups, and partner organizations, as well as advocating for inclusive, sustainable, and community-centered approaches to housing and planning. Trustees are expected to uphold high standards of ethical conduct, champion the organization’s mission, and support effective stewardship of resources.

Qualifications
- Experience in housing policy, urban planning, or local government, with the ability to contribute to strategic decision-making in these areas.
- Background in governance or board-level oversight, including familiarity with regulatory compliance and risk management for not-for-profit or public sector bodies.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the capacity to review complex information, financial reports, and impact assessments.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to engage constructively with diverse stakeholders and represent the organization externally.
- Commitment to social impact, equality, and inclusion, with an understanding of the challenges faced by communities regarding housing access and public services.
- Ability to dedicate sufficient time for board meetings, preparation, and occasional community or partner engagements in London.
- Previous trustee or non-executive director experience is beneficial but not essential; relevant leadership or advisory experience in housing, planning, or community development is highly valued.
