Bodywork & Vehicle Paint Spray Apprentice

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Bodywork & Vehicle Paint Spray Apprentice to join our friendly workshop team at Whitestar Travel. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for vehicles who is keen to learn the skills needed to build a career in the automotive repair industry.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Working alongside experienced technicians, you'll gain hands-on experience in:

  • Preparing vehicles for repair by cleaning, sanding, filling and masking damaged areas
  • Learning how to mix paint, apply primers, base coats and clear coats using professional spray equipment
  • Assisting with repairing damaged body panels and replacing parts where required
  • Polishing, buffing and finishing repaired vehicles to achieve a high-quality professional finish
  • Following health and safety procedures while maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Ability to undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair e.g. substrate surface preparation, paint volume calculation etc
  • Ability to correctly identify the substrate materials to be refinished e.g. plastic, steel, aluminium etc
  • Ability to interpret relevant technical data and methods to create paint manufactures specified application
  • Ability to use refinishing materials following paint manufacturer specifications to reinstate vehicle finish back to high quality
  • Ability to identify and operate the correct repair tools, equipment and devices used in the process e.g mixing systems, paint booths, UV lamps and spray equipment

Training schedule

Vehicle Damage Paint Technician Level 3.
Day release at Sunderland College.

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade 4-9)
    • Maths (grade 4-9)

Whitestar Travel is based in Peterlee, County Durham, with a busy vehicle workshop specialising in vehicle diagnostics, repairs and paintwork. Alongside maintaining our own fleet, we also carry out work on a wide range of customer vehicles.
