Your future role

The Bogies Department in Derby has a long history of developing bogies to meet the international market needs with products running all around the world. We are proud to have a high number of experts, a culture of 'can-do' and strong links and collaboration with other bogie and Rolling Stock sites which all combined enable us to deliver solutions competitively. Derby has developed the Flexx Eco Bogie Platform with over 7,000 bogies delivered/ordered across the world with operating environment extremes from the cold climate of Norway to the hot environment of Riyadh.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Develop 3D CAD models for component parts and assemblies based on conceptual designs and preliminary specifications
  • Create and review detailed part and assembly drawings in compliance with design and manufacturing standards, ensuring designs are optimised for manufacturability, serviceability, and repair feasibility
  • Prepare, validate, and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) data within PDM/PLM systems, ensuring accurate technical documentation, metadata management, and overall BOM integrity.
  • Create, update, and manage engineering change documentation
  • Perform basic technical calculations using standard engineering formulas
  • Identify and define standard components and semi-finished products based on technical requirements and specifications
  • Conduct installation and design feasibility studies in line with given guidelines
  • Perform tolerance analysis to ensure design accuracy and functionality
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders as required

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience with CAD systems; familiarity with CATIA V5 or similar tools is a strong advantage
  • Strong teamwork skills combined with the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks
  • High level of responsibility, proactiveness, and initiative in day-to-day work
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
