An exciting opportunity for a Booking Clerk to join the Respiratory team at Dorset County Hospital

This is a varied, interesting, and rewarding role, and we are looking for a post holder who is professional, confident, keen, and friendly. You will need to be able to communicate with everyone in the MDT, including consultants, nurses, secretaries, patients, and external agencies. Therefore, having excellent communication skills is essential to the role.

The post is based within the Respiratory Department, North Wing Level 2 at Dorset County Hospital.

This role is for 37.5 hours per week.

The Role

The post holder will be expected to undertake a range of general administrative duties for the department, including:

  • Creating and amending patients diagnostic appointments
  • Booking inpatient diagnostic appointments
  • Answering telephone and email queries
  • Escalating patient queries where appropriate

This role plays a key part in ensuring timely diagnostics and maintaining smooth patient pathways within Respiratory Medicine, supporting the team to deliver high quality care and meet service demand.

The jobholder would be expected to:

  • Act on their own initiative
  • Be responsible for their own actions
  • Make decisions within their role and seek advice, if required, from various members of the MDT team
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the overall administrative service and patient pathways, covering for others when on leave as appropriate

As a member of a team in the department, the post holder will be expected to work flexibly with other members of the team to ensure the best possible patient care.
