Job Title: Bookkeeper
Location: Skipton, North Yorkshire
Salary: £28,000 - £35,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm
Are you an experienced Bookkeeper with strong accounting experience and looking for an opportunity to join a growing and supportive accountancy practice?
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well established and growing accountancy practice based in the Skipton area as a Bookkeeper, where you will take responsibility for managing a varied portfolio of small business clients. You will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing client information through accounting software and supporting the senior accountancy team with accounts preparation.
Working within a professional and collaborative environment, this role would suit an experienced Bookkeeper who is confident working with a range of businesses, has excellent attention to detail and enjoys building strong relationships with clients. You will have the opportunity to broaden your accounting knowledge, work across a varied client portfolio and develop your career within a supportive practice environment.
Key Responsibilities As a Bookkeeper
- Manage a small portfolio of clients, taking responsibility for the accurate inflow and processing of financial information
- Maintain accurate and up to date accounting records using cloud accounting software
- Liaise directly with clients by telephone and email to obtain and clarify financial information as required
- Process bookkeeping transactions and ensure client accounts are maintained accurately and efficiently
- Prepare and submit VAT returns on behalf of clients
- Assist senior accountants with the preparation of accounts for a range of businesses
- Process accounting entries through to trial balance
- Assist with the preparation of management accounts where required
- Support the senior accountancy team with a range of accounting and bookkeeping matters
- Ensure all work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or queries within client accounts
- Maintain a high standard of client service and develop positive working relationships

Experience Required as a Bookkeeper:
- Previous experience working as a Bookkeeper within an accountancy practice or similar environment
- Excellent working knowledge of accounts preparation for a range of businesses, including sole traders, limited companies and partnerships
- Strong practical bookkeeping experience with the ability to manage client accounts independently
- Good knowledge and experience using cloud accounting software
- Experience using Sage, Xero and QuickBooks would be highly advantageous
- Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Ability to prepare accounts and financial information to a high standard
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise your own workload
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confident liaising directly with clients by telephone and email
