About The Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Senior Bookkeeper to join our client’s team. This pivotal role involves managing the entire bookkeeping process for a well-established London vehicle rental business. The successful candidate will work closely with the Directors to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records using Xero accounting software. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a professional seeking a trusted, senior role within a dynamic and friendly environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently to maintain seamless financial operations.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in bookkeeping, with proven experience in managing accounts from start to finish. AAT qualification or being part-qualified is preferred, demonstrating a strong foundation in accounting principles. Proficiency in Xero is essential, along with experience handling purchase and sales ledgers, VAT returns, payroll, and month-end processes. Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to work autonomously are crucial for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Managing the full purchase ledger, including processing supplier invoices and executing weekly payment runs to ensure timely payments.
- Reconciling supplier statements regularly and resolving any discrepancies or queries efficiently.
- Overseeing the sales ledger, including rental income recording and credit control activities to maintain cash flow.
- Carrying out bank and credit card reconciliations to ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and accounted for.
- Maintaining fleet finance schedules, including hire purchase and leasing agreements, to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
- Preparing VAT returns in compliance with HMRC regulations and processing monthly payroll and pension contributions.
- Completing month-end procedures, including trial balance preparation, and supporting the production of management accounts.
- Preparing year-end financial files and liaising with external accountants to facilitate audits and statutory reporting.
