About Us
Gathering is a contemporary art gallery based in Soho, working with artists, collectors and institutions. We are looking for an organised and reliable Bookkeeper to maintain accurate financial records and support the gallery as we continue to grow.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to first bring our accounts fully up to date before transitioning into an ongoing bookkeeping role.
Initial commitment: 3–4 flexible days per week for approximately one month.
Ongoing: Approximately 1-2 days per week, with additional hours during VAT, year-end and financial reporting periods.
Location: Mostly remote, with occasional attendance at our Soho gallery for meetings. Applicants should ideally be based in the London area.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with the external accountant and gallery team.
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using Xero.
- Process supplier invoices through Dext.
- Reconcile bank, supplier and customer accounts.
- Maintain sales and purchase ledgers.
- Prepare payroll journals and reconciliations.
- Process payments to vendors, HMRC, business rates.
- Assist accountant with UK VAT return preparation.
- Assist with month-end and year-end reconciliations.
- Maintain organised financial records and supporting documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping processes.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous bookkeeping experience within a UK business.
- Strong working knowledge of Xero and Dext.
- Good Microsoft 365 skills.
- Excellent understanding of UK VAT and HMRC requirements.
- Experience with bank reconciliations, ledgers and payroll journals.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to work independently, manage deadlines and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.

Qualifications
- AAT Level 2 or Level 3 (or currently studying) preferred.
- Equivalent practical bookkeeping experience will also be considered.
Compensation
£28-£32 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Desirable
- Experience preparing management accounts and financial reports.
- Experience working with small businesses or creative organisations.
- Knowledge of Westminster Business Rates.
