Bookkeeper Opportunity at Floormart Ltd
Floormart Ltd is looking for an experienced and organised Bookkeeper to join our team and take responsibility for the day-to-day running and accuracy of our accounts function.
This is an important role within the business and would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of their work, investigating discrepancies and ensuring that financial information is accurate and delivered on time.
You will be supported by an Accounts Assistant, who handles a range of routine and entry-level accounting tasks, allowing you to focus on the higher-level bookkeeping, reconciliations, controls and month-end responsibilities.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting function
- Preparing and completing month-end processes
- Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Purchase and sales ledger oversight
- Preparing supplier payment runs
- VAT preparation and returns
- Posting and reviewing journals
- Managing accruals and prepayments
- Reviewing and investigating accounting discrepancies
- Reconciling information between our accounting and ERP systems
- Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Monitoring and investigating gross margin discrepancies
- Supporting stock and stock movement reconciliations
- Reviewing work completed by the Accounts Assistant
- Liaising with management, suppliers and external accountants where required
- Helping to develop and improve accounting procedures and internal controls

Sage Migration
Floormart is currently transitioning from Sage 50 to Sage 200.
The successful candidate will therefore play an active role in this transition, helping to ensure that accounting processes, balances and controls are transferred and established correctly.
For this reason, practical experience using both Sage 50 and Sage 200 is important for this position.
This is a great opportunity for someone with Sage 200 experience to have a genuine influence on how the new system and accounting processes are implemented within the business.
What We're Looking for
Essential:
- AAT Level 3 qualified or above
- Previous experience in a bookkeeping or accounts role
- Practical experience using Sage 50
- Practical experience using Sage 200
- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
- Experience with month-end accounting processes
- Experience with bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Experience with journals, accruals and prepayments
- Good understanding of VAT
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies independently
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workload
Desirable:
- Experience working within a wholesale, distribution, retail or stockholding business
- Experience reconciling an ERP/stock system with accounting software
- Understanding of stock accounting and stock movements
- Experience investigating gross margin discrepancies
- Experience assisting with management accounts
- Experience supporting or reviewing the work of an Accounts Assistant
- AAT Level 4 or willingness to continue studying

About You
We're looking for someone who is more than simply a transaction processor.
You'll be comfortable questioning figures when something doesn't look right, investigating differences and following issues through until they are understood and resolved.
You'll be organised, dependable and comfortable taking ownership of the accounts function while working closely with the wider management team.
Experience working within a busy SME environment would be particularly beneficial.
