TPF Recruitment have been instructed by an award-winning practice in Bishop's Stortford to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper into their team.
This Bookkeeper position plays a vital role in ensuring the financial accuracy and compliance of a growing independent accounting practice, serving small to medium-sized businesses across diverse industries.
As Bookkeeper, you will be central to maintaining reliable financial records, delivering timely reporting and supporting clients in meeting their statutory obligations under HMRC regulations and UK accounting standards. With a focus on precision, professionalism, and client-centric service, you will leverage cloud-based accounting platforms to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented professional with a minimum 2 years' experience who thrives in a dynamic, client-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date financial records for multiple clients using cloud-based accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
- Regularly process and reconcile bank and credit card transactions to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Support clients with VAT returns, PAYE, and other statutory filings in full compliance with HMRC requirements.
- Proactively collect, verify, and organize financial documentation from clients to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts and provide coordinated support during external audits.
- Establish and maintain secure, organized digital and physical filing systems to ensure data compliance and easy retrieval.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data promptly, escalating complex issues to senior accountants when necessary.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with clients and internal teams regarding financial status, reporting timelines, and compliance deadlines.
- Stay current with changes in UK tax legislation, accounting standards, and regulatory updates to ensure ongoing compliance.

Requirements
Bookkeeper
- Must live a commutable distance from Bishop's Stortford
- This role is a full-time, office-based position.
- Minimum 2 years' professional bookkeeping experience within a reputable accounting or financial services environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards, HMRC regulations, and statutory compliance (VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax).
- Proficiency in cloud-based accounting platforms such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage.
