About The Role

Hays Senior Finance is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join a reputable accountancy and business advisory practice based in Greater Manchester. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a growing organization that values professional development and collaborative working environments. As a Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of SME clients, providing essential bookkeeping and financial support services. You will act as a trusted financial advisor to clients, helping them maintain accurate records, comply with statutory requirements, and gain insights into their financial health. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in bookkeeping and finance, with relevant qualifications or experience. Specific requirements include:

  • AAT qualification or equivalent experience in bookkeeping and finance.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a bookkeeping role, preferably within an accountancy practice or SME environment.
  • Proficiency in cloud-based accounting software such as Xero and Sage.
  • Strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of financial regulations and compliance.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake a variety of key responsibilities, including:

  • Managing bookkeeping activities for a portfolio of SME clients, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Performing bank reconciliations and maintaining comprehensive financial records.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns in accordance with HMRC deadlines.
  • Supporting clients with cash flow management, invoicing, and financial administration tasks.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and HMRC regulations.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, acting as a primary point of contact for their financial queries.
  • Utilizing cloud-based accounting systems such as Xero and Sage to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Assisting with month-end procedures, management reporting, and other ad hoc financial tasks as required.
