Bookkeeper, Payroll & Accounts Assistant
Location: Marlborough, Wiltshire
Hours: 9am - 5pm, Monday - Thursday, 9am - 3pm Fridays
Salary: £30,000 - £32,000
Holiday: 28 Days incl. Bank Holidays.

Our client is a multi-office, chartered accountancy firm, providing services across Wiltshire, Somerset, Bristol and beyond. The firm offers a broad range of services including accounts, audit, business and personal tax, bookkeeping, payroll, business advisory and R&D tax credits. They also provide specialist services including crypto tax, wealth planning, wills and probate, giving clients access to accounting, tax, business and legal expertise under one firm. The firm describes its approach as modern and relationship-focused, embracing cloud technology and aiming to provide practical advice that supports clients' financial and business goals.
They're now looking to bring a bookkeeping, payroll and accounts assistant on board to help with the workload in their busy Marlborough office. In this role you'll be a part of the operation foundation of the team, preparing accurate VAT returns, keeping up to date with the portfolio of clients, managing payroll processing and building strong, long term relationships with clients. You'll also assist with any general running of the office as required.
Position Duties
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for a portfolio of clients, ensuring bookkeeping is completed to a high standard and supports the efficient preparation of accounts and tax returns.
- Prepare and submit accurate VAT returns within required deadlines, ensuring clients and colleagues have access to reliable and timely financial information.
- Manage payroll processing for a portfolio of clients, ensuring all deadlines are met, pension submissions are completed accurately, and clients receive clear and timely payroll information.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and colleagues, ensuring financial information is obtained promptly and queries are handled efficiently and professionally.
- Contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the office by identifying and implementing improvements to processes, systems and overall working practices.

Position Requirements
- The right candidate will hold a level 2 or 3 AAT qualification, or have demonstrable, equivalent relevant experience.
- A background in practice accountancy is essential.
- Experience with cloud accounting software, ideally including Xero or similar platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to maintain complete and well-organised financial records, identify discrepancies and ensure all financial information is recorded correctly and in line with relevant requirements.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage a varied portfolio of clients, prioritise workloads effectively and ensure bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and other client deadlines are consistently met.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to communicate professionally with clients and colleagues, obtain the information required to complete financial work and respond to queries clearly, efficiently and helpfully.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to work, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team while also taking responsibility for individual client workloads and identifying opportunities to improve processes and ways of working.
- Client-focused and professional, with the ability to build positive long-term relationships, understand client requirements and provide a reliable, responsive and high-quality service.

Position Remuneration
- Strong work from home opportunity with, 3 office-based days and 2 work from home days available, upon successful completion of probationary period.
- Salary up £32,000 dependent on experience.
- 20 days of annual, plus 8 bank holidays, along with company pension.
