Bookkeeper
Northampton | Full-Time or Part-Time Considered
PHM is a well-established independent firm of Chartered Accountants based in Northampton, providing accountancy, audit, tax, bookkeeping, and advisory services to owner-managed businesses and SMEs across Northamptonshire and the surrounding region.
Due to continued growth in our bookkeeping portfolio and increasing demand for our services, particularly as Making Tax Digital requirements continue to expand, we are looking to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper to join our team.
We recognise that flexibility is important and are happy to consider both full-time and part-time applicants. This role may suit someone looking to balance their career alongside family or other commitments whilst remaining part of a professional and supportive team.
This is a client-facing role and would suit somebody who enjoys building relationships with business owners and becoming a trusted day-to-day contact for their clients.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing bookkeeping requirements for a portfolio of clients, ensuring records are accurate, up to date, and maintained to a high standard.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
