About The Role
We are partnering with a well-established firm of Chartered Accountants based in Cambridge to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional to join a friendly and supportive team environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day bookkeeping needs of a diverse client portfolio, ensuring that all financial records are accurate and compliant with statutory requirements. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess prior experience working within a UK practice environment, demonstrating a solid understanding of bookkeeping principles and VAT regulations. Proficiency in cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Effective communication skills are vital, as the role involves liaising directly with clients to provide professional and responsive service. A proactive attitude and a willingness to develop technical skills further are highly valued.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients using various accounting software packages.
- Process purchase and sales ledgers, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly.
- Perform bank reconciliations to verify the accuracy of financial data.
- Prepare VAT returns and ensure their timely submission in accordance with HMRC deadlines.
- Assist with month-end and year-end procedures, collaborating with the accounts team as necessary.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients by providing a responsive and professional service.
- Support the team with ad hoc accounting tasks and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the practice.
