Meraki Talent is delighted to be supporting a well-established manufacturing and production business in the appointment of a permanent Assistant Accountant in West Lothian. Offering a high degree of flexibility in terms of start/finish times, a relaxed supportive environment and exposure to management accounts.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional looking to develop their accounting experience within a supportive and growing organisation. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day finance function, ensuring accurate financial records, maintaining strong controls, and assisting with month-end reporting activities.

The Role

The Assistant Accountant will support the wider team in delivering accurate financial processing, reconciliations, and reporting.

The role combines transactional finance responsibilities with month-end accounting support, offering excellent exposure to a broad range of accounting activities and providing a strong platform for future career development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable processes, ensuring invoices are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain supplier records and assist with the resolution of supplier queries and invoice discrepancies.
  • Record daily financial transactions across accounting systems and ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Bank and ledger reconciliations, investigating and resolving any variances identified.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including journal postings and preparation of supporting schedules.
  • Maintain organised financial records and documentation to support audit and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve finance procedures, controls, and reporting processes.
  • General accounting and admin support to the wider Finance team as required.

Candidate Profile

  • Previous experience within a similar position
  • Experience of Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Payroll experience not essential but highly advantageous
