About the Role

Join our busy accountancy practice as an Apprentice Bookkeeper & Accounts Assistant. Gain hands-on experience supporting our bookkeeping, accounts or administration teams, whilst learning professional skills and contributing to our culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellent client service.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Processing purchase and sales invoices.
  • Reconciling bank accounts.
  • Assisting with VAT returns.
  • Managing client records and documents.
  • Supporting accounts preparation.
  • Communicating with clients by phone and email.
  • Updating practice management systems.
  • Updating accounts systems.
  • General administration and office support.
  • Assisting payroll, bookkeepers, and accounts assistants with client work.

What You'll Learn

Course Contents

  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues, such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training Schedule

The apprentice will be working towards the Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2 apprenticeship standard including the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. Classroom attendance at Colchester Institute (Colchester Campus) every other week.

Colchester Institute have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this apprenticeship through our Online and On Campus model.

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • Maths and English (grade A*-C/9-4)
