Bookkeeping & Admin Assistant – Maternity Cover - 9 months
Part-time | 16-20 hours per week | Flexible working pattern
The Accountant Lady is a small, friendly accountancy practice, and we're looking for a Bookkeeping & Admin Assistant to join us initially on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave. However, there is an opportunity for the role to continue beyond the maternity cover for the right person, depending on the needs of the practice at that time.
The role is primarily focused on bookkeeping for our clients, with some general administrative work alongside it.
We're looking for someone who is organised, trustworthy and is comfortable getting on with their work independently. The role will initially involve working alongside us, with the potential to include some home-based working once you're settled into the systems and processes.
What you'll be doing
Your main responsibility will be keeping client bookkeeping accurate and up to date. This will include:
- Processing invoices and receipts using various software
- Bookkeeping in Xero & QuickBooks
- Bank reconciliations
- Reconciling payment platforms
- Keeping client bookkeeping records organised and up to date
- Assisting with client onboarding processes
- General administrative tasks

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
