Bookkeeping Manager

TPF Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of a well established and highly regarded accountancy practice based in Dartford, who are looking to appoint an experienced Bookkeeping Manager to join their growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced bookkeeper or practice accountant looking to take the next step in their career and move into a management position.

The successful candidate will oversee a team of five based in Lagos, ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently and within agreed deadlines. You will also manage a portfolio of clients, providing a high level of service and dealing with a variety of bookkeeping, VAT and accounting queries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and overseeing a team of five based in Lagos
  • Allocating workloads, monitoring deadlines and reviewing completed work
  • Providing support, guidance and training to the team
  • Managing a portfolio of clients across a range of industries
  • Building and maintaining strong, long term client relationships
  • Processing supplier and debtor invoices
  • Balancing accounts and maintaining accurate financial records
  • Carrying out regular bank reconciliations
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Completing EC Sales List submissions where required
  • Monitoring aged debtor and creditor listings
  • Ensuring timely supplier payments
  • Dealing with incomplete records and resolving bookkeeping and VAT queries
  • Maintaining accurate financial paperwork and filing systems
  • Reviewing bookkeeping work to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Dealing with client queries in a professional and timely manner
  • Supporting the continued development and growth of the bookkeeping function

Requirements

About You

The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping experience, preferably gained within an accountancy practice, and will be confident working with clients from a variety of industries.

You will be comfortable managing a team, prioritising workloads and ensuring deadlines are consistently met. You will also have excellent attention to detail and be confident identifying and resolving accounting issues.

Experience using Sage Line 50, VT and QuickBooks would be highly advantageous.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in bookkeeping, ideally within an accountancy practice
  • Confident managing and overseeing a team
  • Highly organised with strong time management skills
  • A self starter with a proactive approach
  • Client focused with excellent communication skills
  • Accurate and detail oriented
  • Confident dealing with VAT and general bookkeeping queries
  • Able to manage multiple clients and competing deadlines
  • IT literate with strong knowledge of accounting software
  • Keen to develop their skills and career
  • Aligned with the long term vision and values of the firm
