Job Title: Boy’s Pathway Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach

Department: Sport Science & Medicine (SS&M)

Reports to: Clinical Director / Head of Talent & Development

Location: The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton and Other Venues

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Hours: Min 40 hours per week to include evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required

Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 per annum

🆕 ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Everyone here at Somerset is excited to welcome a driven and collaborative Boy’s Pathway Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach to lead the physical development of our emerging male pathway players.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to:

  • Plan, programme and deliver a physical development programme across our county age group, Emerging Player and Academy pathways.
  • Lead our wider long-term athletic development strategy, including consideration of male growth and maturation, to support player progression.
  • Work closely with the SS&M team, Men’s Lead S&C Coach and Boy’s Pathway Lead Physiotherapist to help prepare players physically for transition into the professional game.

🚀 WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Sounds rewarding, right? In this role, you will use your experience, skills and knowledge to:

  • Lead and deliver bespoke strength and conditioning provision across the Boy’s Pathway, including CAG, EPP and Academy programmes.
  • Profile players regularly against SCCC physical KPIs, producing screening reports and bespoke programmes to support development.
  • Monitor and interpret GPS, bowling workload, Smartabase, growth and maturation data to inform performance, preparation and player management.
  • Support nutrition, warm-ups, pre-game preparation, injury risk reduction, rehabilitation and return-to-performance decisions in collaboration with SS&M colleagues.
  • Contribute to wider pathway operations, including LTAD planning, senior squad support, department meetings, audits, student placements, CPD and equipment management.

🔎 WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

💡Useful tip: we will review and score applications against the criteria below, so please make sure your application clearly shows how you meet them.

  • Relevant sporting and strength & conditioning qualifications, including undergraduate study, postgraduate S&C qualification or equivalent, UKSCA accreditation or working towards it, and ECB BLS certification.
  • Proven experience delivering S&C programmes in sport, particularly within youth development environments.
  • Experience designing and delivering individualized physical development programmes for athletes aged 13–18.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary working, including collaboration with physiotherapy, medical, psychology, nutrition and coaching staff on return-to-play decisions.
  • The ability to set and maintain physical development standards across age groups or squads, including supervising placement staff and briefing coaches.
  • Skilled in profiling, growth and maturation tracking, workload monitoring, athlete management systems, data reporting and translating insights into practical training decisions.

You will need to be eligible to work in the UK. We cannot offer sponsorship routes for this role.
