Branch Director – Commercial Insurance Broking
Location: Bristol
Salary: £60,000 – £75,000 depending on experience, plus bonus and benefits
The Company:
Our client is an established and highly regarded insurance broker. Their Bristol branch is performing strongly, consistently hitting its revenue targets, and is firmly on an upward curve, with ambitious growth plans for the year ahead. The business is entrepreneurial and results-focused where branch leaders are given real autonomy to grow their office in the way they see fit, without being buried in reporting or process.
The Role:
As the business continues to grow, they are looking to appoint a Branch Director to lead their Bristol office. This is a genuine 50/50 role. Half client and business development, half leading a team of client executives and client advisors. You will own the branch revenue target and be accountable for the performance of the office, including client relationships, compliance, aged debt and the development of your team through regular one-to-ones, objective setting and mid-year and year-end reviews. Central HR support is in place, so the focus is on leadership rather than administration.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This is not a desk-bound management role. You will lead from the front, taking your team out to see clients and prospects, coaching them on the job and spotting opportunities across the existing client base. You will inherit a small number of relationships, and the business expects you to build your own book through your network, established introducer relationships and untapped trade sector opportunities. Bonus is linked to new business and branch performance. For an experienced commercial broker or account executive who is ready for their first leadership role, or an established branch leader looking for a growing office with the freedom to shape it, this is an exciting time to join.
The Required Skills:
- Experience handling and developing commercial insurance clients within a broker
- Strong technical credibility across commercial lines, with the ability to advise clients and coach a team
- A proven track record of new business development and building introducer and referral relationships
- Mentoring, team leadership or management experience; a first step into a director role is welcome
- Confident owning a revenue target and managing compliance, aged debt and team performance
- A hands-on leader who leads by example and enjoys developing others
