Brand, Content and Design Lead
The Brand, Content and Design Lead is London Councils’ brand guardian, leading on ensuring London Councils’ brand and content output meets rigorous quality standards and leverages the latest digital and AI tools. This influential role ensures the organisation has a strong voice and maximum impact in representing London local government.
Job Summary
To act as brand guardian – developing and overseeing the London Councils’ brand, visual identity and tone of voice across all content to support the organisation in achieving its goals.
- To commission the design and production of a range of content from video to graphics, working to deadlines within agreed budgets.
- To creatively develop, deliver and oversee a range of communications channels and content for internal and external stakeholders, including exploring digital and AI tools.
- To work with colleagues and partners to deliver the overall London Councils’ communications strategy.
- To undertake all responsibilities listed below:
- Commissioning and producing engaging and effective content for London Councils channels, including but not limited to – video, infographics and social media assets, publications, marketing materials, e-newsletter articles, exhibition material.
- Advising on and overseeing the development of narrative, brand and tone of voice of London Councils and hosted projects.
- Making decisions on content and presentation, taking full account of London Councils’ political balance and the diversity of Londoners as well as inner/outer London balance and other issues.
- Playing a leading role in maintaining standards, quality and consistency in visual and written content.
- Providing evaluation to continuously assess and improve the impact of London Councils’ products, ensuring activity is aligned to and supports wider evaluation of our organisational goals.
- Collaborate with colleagues and other key stakeholders to support new ways of working – including with AI tools, improving the capability of colleagues and improving the standard of service to members and customers.
- Building and managing relationships with external suppliers to commission and procure content and design on behalf of London Councils.
- Ensuring that all work takes account of legal requirements, including corporate procurement processes, media law, data protection, copyright, the rules governing local government publicity, and London Councils’ policies and protocols.

KNOWLEDGE

Essential:
- Good knowledge of editorial processes including commissioning, procurement, creating briefs, project managing suppliers and sign off processes.
- Good knowledge of production techniques across design, print, video and other forms of content.
Desirable:
- Good understanding of London Councils’ objectives and the financial, legal and political context of local government, especially in London.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong conceptual thinking and ability to translate organisational needs into engaging visuals.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva.
- An excellent eye for written and visual detail.
- Ability to lead and project manage others.
- Excellent writing and proofing skills.
- Ability to manage a varied workload, meeting tight deadlines at all times.
- Ability to manage external contractors, ensuring cost and quality control and delivery to deadline.
EXPERIENCE
- At least three years’ experience in an in-house brand or design role.
