Job Summary
This is a full time role for 37.5 hours/week.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist ready to take the next step into a leadership position, with opportunities to influence service development and drive innovation in breast cancer care. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic nurse leader with a passion for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to lead our Primary and Secondary Breast Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist teams. You will have a key role in shaping the future of the breast cancer service, ensuring people affected by breast cancer receive exceptional support throughout their cancer pathway.
You will provide clinical leadership, professional guidance, and oversight for the specialist nursing teams. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will maintain a clinical presence across the Trust, offering expert assessment, advice, and support to patients and carers. Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, you will ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care for people affected by breast cancer.
Main duties of the job
The Breast Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Team Leader (Band 7) will provide advanced clinical expertise and day-to-day leadership to the breast cancer specialist nursing teams at the Great Western Hospital. Working collaboratively with the oncologists, surgeons, Wiltshire Breast Screening team and wider multidisciplinary team supporting patients diagnosed with a breast cancer, the post holder will ensure the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred breast cancer service.
The Breast Cancer CNS teams deliver a proactive and responsive service, coordinating the breast cancer pathway from pre-diagnosis, through treatment, to living with and beyond cancer or palliative care. The post holder will act as a key worker for patients, providing expert clinical, psychological, and supportive care, while contributing to service improvement, clinical governance, and quality assurance in line with national guidance.

Job responsibilities
The Breast Cancer Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Team Leader will lead the Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist Teams working alongside the oncologists, surgeons, Wiltshire Breast Screening team and wider multidisciplinary team supporting patients diagnosed with a breast cancer. The aim of the post is to enhance the patient quality of life when diagnosed with breast cancer, supporting the patient, families and carers.
The post holder will act as a key worker identifying the needs of this patient population using his/her expertise in clinical, knowledge and interpersonal skills to support the management of symptoms and treatments.
This will involve the provision of specialist advice and liaison with appropriate Health Care Professionals across all care settings and Breast Multidisciplinary teams in other Trusts. The CNS will be expected to deliver nurse-led clinics supporting patients with breast cancer.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse Level 1 registered with NMC
- Speciality qualification at Masters Level or equivalent knowledge and experience (or working towards Masters)
- Teaching & Assessing qualification or equivalent experience
- Palliative care, Oncology &/or Breast specialist Qualifications
- Advanced Communication skills / Psychological level 2 training
- Demonstrate evidence of on-going continuous professional development

Desirable
- Leadership qualification
- Working towards Master's qualification
- Non-Medical Prescribing or willingness to work towards
Experience
Essential
- Significant post registration experience
- Significant experience working at Band 6 working at a senior level
- Experience in palliative /oncology and /or breast care
- Experience of running nurse-led clinics
- Experience in developing and training staff
- Implementation of change to improve services/patient experience
- Evidence of involvement in Clinical Governance
- Health and Safety in relation to the speciality
- Ability to lead clinical audit
- Evidence of sound management and leadership experience
Desirable
- Has a varied clinical background
- Evidence of involvement in service users' advocacy and complaints resolution
- Risk Management & incident Investigation
- Project management experience
