Job Opportunity: Qualified Mammographer
Do you have a post graduate qualification in Mammography or are you interested in studying for one?
The Breast Imaging Department at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust have a part-time position available for a qualified, HCPC registered Radiographer. Applications are welcome from those who are due to qualify in Radiography and require training in breast, in line with Annex 21 guidance.
Role Overview
As a qualified Mammographer, you will participate in breast screening, assessment, and symptomatic clinics within the static units of The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury, and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, as well as performing screening mammography on mobile units at various locations throughout rural Shropshire. It is therefore essential that you hold a current UK full driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in breast screening, assessment, and symptomatic clinics within static units and mobile units.
- Work shift patterns to meet the demands of the expanding screening population and symptomatic workload.
- Provide a high-quality mammography service in line with NHS Breast Screening Programme standards.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
- Carry out mammography examinations to the standard set by the NHS Breast Screening Programme.
- Undertake all associated quality assurance procedures to maintain the service at the national standard.
- Provide an excellent, professional breast imaging service to all users.
- Undertake X-ray examinations as an operator in accordance with IR(ME)R 2000.
- Justify medical exposures using departmental examination protocols, own knowledge, and experience to ensure a safe and effective mammographic service.
- Practice all radiation protection procedures.
- Undertake a demanding workload whilst maintaining a high standard of radiography and client/patient care.
- Return the hard drive to the breast screening static unit at the end of the working day and upload images onto PACS.
- Maintain appropriate records (paper and IT) in compliance with IR(ME)R and departmental procedures.
- Ensure all equipment is used correctly and any faults or concerns are reported and recorded in the room fault book, and follow IR(ME)R 2000 relating to equipment handover.
- Perform and record outcomes for all necessary equipment QA tests in line with NHSBSP requirements.

Location and Benefits
You will be joining us at an incredibly exciting time as, having recently being awarded more than £300 million government funding, The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is about to undergo a major transformation as part of our sustainable services programme. This will lead to breast imaging and surgery being co-located at one of the two hospital sites in a purpose-built breast services department.
Our department is committed to radiographer role extension and CPD and currently has Advanced Practitioners undertaking stereo core biopsy and film-reading and Assistant Practitioners performing screening and symptomatic mammography.
