Breast Radiology Clinical Fellow
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Breast Radiology Clinical Fellow to complement our established and experienced Breast Radiology team.
The University Hospital of North Tees houses a modern, purpose breast unit which runs the regional screening and symptomatic breast services across Stockton, Middlesbrough, East and South Durham, Hartlepool and the surrounding areas, making it one of the top five largest breast units in the country.
The screening service screens over 55,000 women every year and diagnoses around 320 cancers per year.
The symptomatic service sees approximately 8,000 referrals per year, diagnosing around 600 cancers.
The team are proud of the first-class breast screening and symptomatic service they provide.
Role
The candidate will undertake a minimum of 20 hours of breast radiology. Candidates who wish to work entirely within Breast Radiology or those who wish for a more mixed Breast/General Radiology role will be considered:
- Candidates employed wholly within Breast Radiology will not be expected to participate in an out of hours provision of services.
- Duties of the General Radiology role would include participation in the general radiology on-call service (currently 1:12), supported by overnight outsourcing (Nighthawk). There is no requirement to perform complex intervention (such as nephrostomy) out of hours.

The General Radiology service is well equipped, with modern facilities including multiple Dual and Single Source Siemens CT scanners, 3T and 1.5T MRI scanners, SPECT-CT and recently upgraded ultrasound facilities. Philips (Carestream) PACS was installed in 2020 with regional image sharing via a Global Worklist. Fully specified home workstations are provided for general radiologists to support insourcing and home working.
