Role Description
We are currently seeking a LPS Operator to join our team at Lowestoft port. The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure the safe operation of the Gull Wing Bridges and support the port LPS function to facilitate the safety of navigation and safe operation of the Port of Lowestoft.
Accountabilities
- Maintain Local Port Services functions at Lowestoft including:
- 24hr port VHF radio and port ‘front desk’ telephone cover.
- Operate and implement port flood warning service.
- Issue of ABP permissions forms for diving and hot work activities on ABP berths. Ensure such activities are suitably promulgated to relevant port users to ensure compliance with the relevant permissions.
- Report unsafe practices, damages, or potentially dangerous situations to HM or Deputy to initiate appropriate response.
- Liaise with ABP staff, contractors, vessel agents, owners, operators and customers.
- Safe operation of the Lowestoft Bridges (considering the safety of vessels/craft, and road users/pedestrians), in accordance with Bridge Operator’s Procedures manual.
- First point of contact for Emergency Response requirements, for potential initiation of port emergency plans and procedures (subject to instructions from Harbour Master or Deputy).
- Liaise with emergency services for incident response on port estate areas and adjoining land/areas.

Skills & Experiences
- Ability to work on a rostered shift pattern which includes unsociable hours.
- Minimum Short Range VHF Radio certificate.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Marine background or knowledge.
- Knowledge of Port Operations and Port Emergency Plans.
Shift Pattern
The shift pattern for this role is a 12-hour shift, operating from Monday to Sunday within a rolling rota with night shifts included. Further information on the rota will be discussed during the interview.
