Mortgage Underwriter – Bridging Finance
Northreach is partnering with a specialist mortgage lender to recruit a Mortgage Underwriter for its bridging finance team.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of bridging applications from initial assessment through to completion. Working within a small, collaborative team, you’ll make well-reasoned credit decisions, support intermediary partners and help deliver a responsive, reliable lending service.
The role
You’ll assess applications against the lender’s credit policy, balancing commercial judgement with thorough due diligence and effective risk management. You’ll also discuss potential cases with introducers, provide heads of terms and manage your pipeline through to funding.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and underwriting bridging loan applications within agreed service levels.
- Assessing credit searches, Land Registry reports, valuations and supporting documentation.
- Preparing clear, concise credit rationales, identifying risks and appropriate mitigations.
- Managing cases from application through to completion, including liaising with solicitors and arranging funding.
- Supporting introducers with new enquiries and potential applications.
- Maintaining accurate case records and data throughout the lending process.
- Providing proactive service to brokers, solicitors and internal stakeholders.
- Contributing to improvements in underwriting processes and supporting colleagues across the wider team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
