Our Winter Vacation Scheme offers a unique opportunity to experience firsthand what sets Burges Salmon apart, a firm built on the pillars of exceptional client work, deep sector expertise, a genuinely collaborative culture, and a real commitment to your personal and professional development.

Gain Real Sector-Specific Knowledge
At Burges Salmon, we are recognised for our strength across key sectors including energy and utilities, financial services, housing, infrastructure, transport, and technology. During the scheme, you won't just observe, you'll be embedded within our practice groups and gain high-level, sector-specific knowledge by working on live matters alongside specialists who advise some of the UK's most significant organisations. You'll develop an understanding of how commercial, regulatory, and legal issues intersect within specific industries, giving you a genuine head start in building the kind of sectoral insight that defines the best lawyers.
What You'll Experience
During the week-long scheme, you'll engage in meaningful, hands-on work and have the opportunity to:
- Attend client meetings and departmental briefings to see how we deliver advice at the highest level.
- Participate in tailored skills sessions designed to develop your legal and professional capabilities.
- Gain exposure to our cross-sector approach, understanding how our teams collaborate to deliver integrated solutions for clients.
- Build connections across the firm through social and sports events, immersing yourself in our inclusive and supportive culture — one where people genuinely enjoy working together.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
