The University’s BSL Plan Implementation Group is seeking a motivated student to support the work of this innovative project. The post is available for 2 months, 3 days per week (60% FTE), with an immediate start date.
The post-holder will research the history of deaf students and staff at the University of Edinburgh and help organise an Open Day for prospective deaf students in September 2026, producing a poster, webpage content, and a communications and social media template for ongoing use by the BSL Plan Implementation Group.

About the Role
The University’s BSL Plan Implementation Group is looking for one motivated student to support the work of this innovative project. The post-holder will research the history of deaf students and staff at the University of Edinburgh and help organise an Open Day for prospective deaf students in September 2026, producing a poster, webpage content, and a communications and social media template for ongoing use by the BSL Plan Implementation Group.
Employ.ed on Campus is run by the Careers Service in collaboration with University departments and Schools. The semester programme offers exclusive term-time internships at the University for 2nd year to penultimate year undergraduate students from the University of Edinburgh based in the UK. You cannot take part if you are a visiting student, or you have already taken part in the programme before. This role is grade UE03 for 21 hours per week (3 days per week) and offers a fantastic opportunity for a student with excellent organisational and research skills to apply them in a supportive environment.
Your Skills and Attributes for Success
- Ability to locate, interpret and synthesise information from archival or historical sources
- Ability to write accessible copy for a general/ prospective-student audience (e.g. web content, posters, social media)
- Ability to plan and help to deliver a public-facing event
- Experience of successfully communicating with a wide range of deaf people including BSL signers
- Fluent in written English and basic command of BSL
