Buy-to-Let (BTL) Underwriter

We are looking for an experienced Buy-to-Let (BTL) Underwriter to join our growing team in the City of London. This role is suited to a confident underwriter with a minimum of 3 years' specialist Buy-to-Let underwriting experience, who can assess complex cases, make sound lending decisions, and manage applications through to offer while maintaining exceptional service standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite Buy-to-Let mortgage applications in line with lending policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Review financial and supporting documentation received from intermediaries to determine applicant eligibility.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments, liaising with brokers, valuers, solicitors, and other stakeholders where required.
  • Make informed underwriting decisions and determine appropriate special conditions.
  • Issue mortgage offers for approved applications.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all documentation is fully compliant.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and business partners.
  • Ensure all applications are processed within agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Adhere to internal procedures, compliance standards, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' specialist Buy-to-Let mortgage underwriting experience gained within a lender.
  • Strong knowledge of Buy-to-Let lending policies, underwriting principles, and risk assessment.
  • Experience of manually underwriting BTL mortgage applications from submission to offer.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with brokers and third parties.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases effectively.
