Professional Development
We are committed to the professional development of our Building Control staff, supporting ongoing learning, accreditation, and career progression in line with Building Safety Regulator requirements. This includes access to leadership and management development programmes, apprenticeship pathways, and a structured mentoring scheme. An additional supplement will be applied if the candidate joins the dangerous structure Rota. With experience and progression through the BSR registration class, you can work your way up to £60,633.
About The Role
You will be responsible for delivering a high-quality and legally compliant Building Control service, ensuring that building work across Richmond and Wandsworth complies with the Building Act 1984, the Building Regulations and associated legislation. The role is focused on protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public, providing assurance that developments meet the required statutory standards and are safe for occupation and use.
- You will undertake the assessment of building regulation applications and carry out site inspections at appropriate stages of construction, exercising professional judgement within your level of competence.
- The role requires the provision of clear, proportionate and impartial advice to applicants, designers and contractors, while maintaining appropriate regulatory boundaries and acting at all times in the wider public interest.
- You will manage a varied caseload, identifying and addressing non-compliant work and supporting enforcement action where necessary to secure compliance. This includes maintaining accurate and auditable records, contributing to responses to complaints and enquiries, and supporting legal processes where required.
- As a Registered Building Inspector, you will operate in accordance with the Building Safety Regulator requirements and Code of Conduct, ensuring that your work aligns with the Building Inspector Competence Framework. You will also be expected to undertake continuous professional development and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the service, supporting a culture of quality, transparency and accountability.
