Maidstone Borough Council - Building Control Manager

Maidstone Borough Council is an ambitious authority at the heart of Kent, committed to creating a thriving borough where communities, businesses and people can prosper. As we continue to deliver sustainable growth, support high-quality development and shape the future of local government, we are seeking an exceptional leader to become our next Building Control Manager.

Role Overview

This is a rare opportunity to lead a well-established Building Control service across the borough of Maidstone. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Place, you will provide operational and strategic leadership to a multidisciplinary team, oversee compliance with Building Safety Regulator requirements, drive service improvement and digital transformation, and maximise opportunities for commercial growth and increasing market share.

While we would welcome applications from experienced and professionally qualified Building Control Managers, we are also interested in hearing from outstanding leaders from related public sector, regulatory, surveying, property, or construction disciplines who can demonstrate the vision, management capability and commercial awareness needed to lead a modern regulatory service.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
