About the Service

Nottingham City Council is investing significantly in its Building Control Service, making this an exciting time to join us.

We are embarking on a major programme of growth, doubling the size of our Building Control team to meet increasing demand, strengthen resilience and provide an even better service to the people, businesses and developers of Nottingham. This investment reflects our commitment to public safety, regulatory excellence and delivering a modern, customer-focused Building Control service.

As a Local Authority Building Control team, our primary focus is protecting people and places. Every day, our Registered Building Inspectors play a critical role in ensuring buildings are safe, accessible, sustainable and compliant with Building Regulations. Our work directly contributes to safer homes, schools, hospitals, workplaces and public buildings across the city.

Alongside our growth programme, we are investing in new technology and digital tools that will enable our inspectors to work more efficiently, spend more time adding value on site and reduce administrative burdens. We are also delivering an extensive learning and development programme, supporting staff to maintain and expand their competencies in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

We are committed to developing the next generation of building control professionals through our "grow your own" approach. Significant investment is being made in apprenticeships, mentoring and career development, creating opportunities for experienced surveyors to help shape and influence the future of the profession.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
