The Building Control Service in Manchester has a key role to play in the evolution of our city, ensuring our developments are compliant, safe, inclusive, sustainable and incorporate measures that reduce the impact of climate change. - Market rate supplement of £4000p.a.
- Monthly essential-user car allowance of £83.65 (1000cc +vehicle) plus a per-mile allowance for all business miles travelled
- Free access to a centrally located car parking facility, available throughout the week across selected sites.
- A generous financial reward for each week you take part in the out-of-hours standby rota, including a minimum weekly allowance of £424.80 plus fixed allowances and overtime payments for any incidents attended. The rota is based on 1 in 9-12 weeks pattern. Addition to the rota will be subject to senior manager/officer approval following a suitable period of training
- Professional membership subscriptions paid (e.g. CABE, RICS, CIOB, etc.)
- Pre-paid online CPD/Training with LABC
- BSR re-registration and BSR maintenance fees paid
- A generous annual leave entitlement of up to 30 days paid leave (plus bank holidays) after a qualifying period of local government service and the ability to purchase an additional 10 days leave for full time employees.

Responsibilities
This is an essential role that has a critical bearing upon the council's ability to meet statutory obligations for ensuring buildings comply with relevant building safety legislation and contributes significantly to the council's resilience capabilities. The responsibilities attached to the role are commensurate with the restricted activities and functions only available to building control and reflects the high importance and regard in which Building Control is held within the authority.

We are waiting to hear from you if you are a registered Class 2A inspector, and are interested in developing your skills and enhancing your professional experience by working in a busy city environment, with a friendly and supportive team of experienced inspectors.
Essential Requirements
- Registered with the Building Safety Regulator as a Class 2A Building Inspector
- Holds, or is working towards obtaining, professional (associate or student) membership of a building control related organisation - Chartered Assoc of Building Engineers (MCABE), Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), or equivalent.
- Must possess relevant building control related knowledge and be able to demonstrate experience acquired, whilst working in a Local Authority or Registered Building Control Approver organisation
- A full UK driving licence is required

- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate equally, appropriately and effectively with the widest range of individuals and groups across all sectors and levels of society.
- Analytical Skills: Demonstrates the ability to apply analytical and logical thinking to gathering and analysing information, designing and testing solutions to problems, and formulating plans.
- Problem Solving and Decision Making: Ability to react to immediate problems of a technical and regulatory nature with associated risk factors and deliver pragmatic solutions sometimes under extreme pressure
- ICT Skills: Skills to play an active role in improving the interface between the business and ICT, including the articulation of the benefits of ICT infrastructure to the business.
- Financial Management: An awareness of the financial structure of the Council and Building Control, and an understanding of the implications of decisions on the delivery of value for money for taxpayers.
- Commercial Skills: Demonstrates an appreciation of business intelligence and ability to identify commercially viable opportunities and secure value for money in service delivery
- People Management: Ability to exert positive influence over the performance of others, promoting others’ self-esteem, inspiring trust and fostering confidence in others’ ability to achieve high standards, thereby enhancing a performance orientated culture which supports the delivery of high quality services to the community.
