This customer-focused approach enables Salus to support projects from concept to completion without franchising its Building Control Inspector service.
Role Description
The Building Inspector role at Salus is a full-time, on-site position based in Birmingham. The Building Inspector will carry out building and site inspections to assess compliance with relevant building regulations, standards, and codes, including structural, fire safety, and accessibility requirements. - Reviewing plans and technical documentation
- Liaising with designers, contractors, and clients
- Providing clear, consistent regulatory guidance throughout the project lifecycle

The role also involves:
- Preparing inspection reports
- Documenting findings
- Recommending corrective actions
- Supporting code enforcement where non-compliance is identified
The Building Inspector will collaborate closely with colleagues in building control and fire safety to help deliver coordinated, high-quality services from project initiation through completion.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform thorough Building Inspections and Inspection activities across a range of project types.
- Experience conducting on-site assessments, including Site Inspections in active construction environments.
- Knowledge of Code Enforcement principles and building regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply them in practice.
- Understanding of Plumbing-related inspection requirements and building services compliance.
- Relevant professional qualification or degree in Building Control, Construction, Engineering, Surveying, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and reporting.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage workload independently, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines on site.
- Familiarity with digital tools and software for recording inspections, tracking compliance, and preparing reports.
- Membership or eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CABE, RICS, CIOB) is an advantage.
