Building Physics Engineer

Hays are delighted to be partnering with a leading multidisciplinary Building Services Consultancy that operates across the UK. Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, they are seeking a talented Building Physics Engineer to join their Cardiff office.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a forward-thinking consultancy that places sustainability, innovation, and technical excellence at the centre of everything they do. You'll work on a diverse range of projects across sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, residential, defence, and public sector developments.

The Role:

As a Building Physics Engineer, you will play a key role in helping clients achieve their sustainability and net-zero ambitions through the delivery of building performance analysis and energy modelling services.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Dynamic thermal modelling using IES-VE.
  • TM52 and TM59 overheating assessments.
  • Energy and carbon assessments.
  • Part L compliance calculations.
  • NABERS and operational energy modelling support.
  • Daylight and sunlight assessments.
  • Building performance optimisation and façade analysis.
  • Supporting sustainability and net-zero carbon strategies.
  • Collaborating with MEP engineers, architects and wider design teams throughout project lifecycles.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Experience within a Building Physics, Sustainability or Building Services environment.
  • Proficiency using IES-VE software.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and energy compliance requirements.
  • Experience undertaking thermal and energy modelling assessments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • A genuine passion for sustainable design and low-carbon buildings.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with BREEAM, NABERS or Passivhaus principles.
  • Experience delivering operational energy modelling.
  • Relevant degree in Building Services Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
