The Opportunity

As Electrical Discipline Leader, you will lead the Electrical Building Services team in our Liverpool office, providing technical direction and day-to-day line management, while mentoring junior and intermediate engineers through their professional development.

Role

  • Lead and line manage the Electrical Building Services team in the Liverpool office, including workload planning, day-to-day technical support, mentoring and development of junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Develop coordinated electrical engineering solutions from concept through design and implementation.
  • Work with clients and key stakeholders to establish requirements, manage meetings and deliver solutions that meet the agreed brief.
  • Maintain oversight of electrical engineering quality, including supervision and review of detailed design and drawing production against the project brief and applicable technical standards.
  • Lead multidisciplinary projects with significant electrical engineering content, managing teams, deliverables, programme and budget.
  • Support senior management with business and technical development, including growing Arup's presence in the Liverpool and Merseyside market.
  • Represent Arup externally at conferences and seminars where this supports the firm's technical profile and business development.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified and Chartered Engineer, or holder of an equivalent recognised professional qualification.
  • Detailed knowledge of UK electrical design standards, statutory requirements and construction practice, with a good awareness of engineering design beyond the electrical discipline.
  • Substantial experience leading electrical building services design on major or technically complex multidisciplinary projects.
  • Sound engineering judgement, including the ability to balance competing priorities and make and record proportionate technical decisions where information is incomplete or project constraints conflict.
  • Strong project and programme management skills, including directing multidisciplinary teams, managing several projects and meeting agreed deadlines.
  • Experience leading and motivating teams, managing staff at different levels, developing engineers and addressing performance or capability issues where required.
  • Evidence of winning work, preparing fee proposals and maintaining client relationships.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness.
