Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer (HVAC) | Braintree | Office Based | Full Time | £35,000–£45,000 per annum
Our client is a specialist energy and engineering consultancy delivering innovative mechanical building services solutions to some of the UK's most recognisable commercial organisations. For almost 20 years, they have helped major property owners, healthcare providers and commercial businesses improve energy performance, reduce carbon emissions and optimise the efficiency of their buildings.
Their projects span commercial offices, healthcare facilities, retail environments, industrial premises and other large-scale buildings, giving engineers exposure to technically challenging, real-world Building Services projects from concept through to completion.
Due to continued growth, they are looking for a Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer with experience in HVAC and Building Services design to join their expanding engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within a highly respected consultancy that works closely with CIBSE and supports professional development towards Chartered Engineer status.
The Role
Working alongside experienced Mechanical Building Services Engineers, you will contribute to the design, coordination and delivery of mechanical building services solutions for commercial projects across the UK.
You'll be involved throughout the design lifecycle, producing technical designs, calculations and drawings while gaining exposure to a wide variety of HVAC systems and energy-efficient building technologies.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
