At Hinkley Point C (HPC), we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
As a Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you will be integrated in the Ancillary Works Team, which is responsible for managing the design of all permanent ancillary buildings and you will oversee the MEP designs by both external consultants and contractors to ensure they meet NNB's requirements.
The buildings are in varying states of maturity; ranging from concept (RIBA2) to in construction (RIBA 5). The main focus will be 5No buildings; one of which is part way through MEP installation, and four of which are in advanced stages of design.
What you'll be doing...
Supporting the specification for new buildings:
- Supporting the preparation of technical specifications for the consultants and contractors developing the design of the building.
- Contributing to the bidders' technical assessment.
- Liaising with stakeholders involved in the specification, procurement, design, construction, use, maintenance, and decommissioning of the building services.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
