Building Services Manager – Permanent, Full Time

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Building Services Manager to lead the delivery of:

  • Mechanical engineering
  • Statutory compliance
  • Safe systems of work

across our complex, highly regulated estate.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of contractual obligations.
  • Supporting the client with premium service delivery.
  • Balancing office-based management with on-site technical leadership.
  • Directly supervising engineers and specialist contractors, ensuring:
    • Planned and reactive maintenance aligns with performance, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Acting as the Qualified Supervisor, ensuring compliance with:
    • F-Gas, Gas Safe, and OFTEC accreditations.
  • Overseeing all inspection, testing, and maintenance activities across:
    • Mechanical plant
    • HVAC systems
    • Pressure systems (including steam)
    • Compressed air
    • Industrial gases
    • Water systems
    • LEV equipment
  • Ensuring robust governance across:
    • Risk assessments
    • Method statements
    • Permits to work
    • Contractor controls (in line with JSP 375 and statutory regulations).

As the Technical Lead, you will:

  • Review new installations, refurbishments, and handover documentation to verify:
    • All assets comply before entering service.
  • Maintain oversight of CAFM records, asset information, technical drawings, and lifecycle planning, ensuring:
    • Accuracy and efficiency in maintenance delivery.
  • Collaborate with:
    • Internal teams
    • Authorising Engineers
    • DSTL Estates
    • DIO representatives
    • Supply chain partners
    • External auditors

Additionally, you will:

  • Mentor engineers and Authorised Persons.
  • Promote competence, training standards, and continuous professional development.
  • Foster a strong safety culture across teams.

About You

We are seeking a candidate with:

  • Significant experience in a mechanical engineering leadership role, ideally within:
    • MOD
    • Healthcare
    • Industrial environments
    • Or similarly regulated sectors.
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
    • Mechanical building services
    • HVAC systems
    • Pressure Systems Regulations
    • Gas Safe
    • OFTEC
    • F-Gas
    • JSP 375
    • SFG20
    • CDM Regulations

Essential:

  • A recognised mechanical qualification such as NVQ or City & Guilds Level 3.
  • Prior Qualified Supervisor or Authorised Person experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Considerations

The role requires participation in an on-call rota for maintenance cover.

Critical Note:

  • The ability to obtain and maintain SC Security Clearance is a condition of employment.
