Job title: Building Services Surveyor (M&E)

Company: Midas Consultancy & Engineering Ltd

Workplace type: On-site

Job location: Luton, England, United Kingdom

Job type: Full-time

Salary: £45,000 to £55,000 per year

Midas Consultancy & Engineering is an independent M&E building services consultancy based in Luton. We work for landlords, managing agents, investors and FM teams across commercial, residential, retail and aviation property.

Our work covers M&E asset verification and asset surveys, condition surveys, lifecycle and CapEx planning, technical due diligence, compliance reviews and client side technical support. We are a small consultancy and we are growing. That shapes this role. You will work directly with the Managing Director, you will see the whole job rather than one slice of it, and what you are capable of will decide how the role develops.

The Role

We need someone to take ownership of a significant amount of our M&E asset verification work. In practice, that means being out on site, identifying mechanical and electrical plant, recording asset information accurately and getting the survey done properly without needing to be managed through it. Your first year will be weighted heavily towards:

  • M&E asset verification and asset data collection
  • Asset tagging
  • Site surveys, including measured and technical surveys
  • Photographic records
  • Checking, organising and quality assuring survey data
  • Producing accurate survey information and supporting report preparation

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

We are being straightforward about that because it matters that you know what you are joining.

Where the role goes

We want this person to develop with the business. The path we have in mind is asset verification, then M&E condition surveys, then lifecycle and CapEx assessments, then wider MEP consultancy work, and in time technical due diligence. The Managing Director will continue to lead the more complex technical consultancy and due diligence work, and will bring you into it as your knowledge builds. There is no fixed timetable on that. It depends on you, and we would rather say so than promise something we cannot control.

What we are looking for

  • Practical building services or M&E experience, whether that comes from contracting, maintenance, surveying or consultancy
  • A working understanding of common mechanical and electrical building systems
  • Confidence identifying plant and equipment on site
  • Genuine attention to detail. Survey data that is nearly right is not much use to anyone
  • Organised, methodical and able to work independently on site
  • Comfortable travelling around the UK
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Able to hold a professional conversation with a client, a building manager or a site engineer
  • Willing to learn, and interested in building a career in M&E consultancy
  • Suited to a small growing consultancy rather than a large corporate structure

Experience level

We are open on this, which is why the salary range is wide. If you are at the earlier end, you do not need to have written a CapEx report or run a technical due diligence. Sound fundamentals, a good attitude and real potential matter more to us than ticking every technical box, and we would rather appoint on that basis than take someone technically stronger who is not reliable or is not right for how we work. If you are further on and already surveying and reporting independently, there is a faster route here and the top of the range reflects that. You would still spend time on asset verification early, but we would be looking to hand condition survey work across quickly rather than over years.

Salary

£45,000 to £55,000 depending on experience. The lower end of this range is for someone with solid M&E site experience who is newer to formal survey work. The upper end is for someone already producing M&E condition surveys independently, who we would expect to be taking that work on within the first six months.

Location and travel

The role is based at our Luton office. Regular travel across the UK is part of the job, so we would ideally like you living within roughly 45 to 60 minutes of Luton.

How to apply

Apply through LinkedIn with your CV or via email - enquiries@midasconsultancy.co.uk.

If you want to add a short note about the survey work you have actually done, it will be read.
