Building Surveyor – Stoke-on-Trent / Cheshire
£45,000 – £65,000 DOE + performance bonus + excellent benefits
Home-based | Monday to Friday
Match Recruitment is working with a long-established UK claims and property consultancy to appoint a Building Surveyor to its regional surveying team. It's a home-based role with a varied caseload, real autonomy and a growing mix of insurance and private client work.
The patch
You'll ideally live in or around Stoke-on-Trent, covering Cheshire and North Staffordshire – north as far as Stockport and south towards the Midlands – with the occasional project in North Wales. There's flexibility on location for the right person.
What you'll be doing
- Managing your own caseload of instructions from insurers, loss adjusters and policyholders
- Carrying out defect diagnosis surveys to establish the cause and extent of damage
- Preparing costed schedules of works
- Running repair projects through to completion under JCT contracts – variations, payments, liquidated damages and key milestones
- Keeping every party informed and working to client service levels and KPIs
- Picking up non-insurance, private client instructions as that side of the business grows

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
